What is R2R architecture?

At present, most of our commonly used DACs use Sigma (usually referred to as Delta-Sigma, DS) architecture, which uses oversampling and noise shaping technology to achieve high-precision digital-to-analog conversion through high-frequency quantization noise shaping and filtering.

R2R (resistive ladder network) architecture is a digital-to-analog conversion through a resistive ladder network (Resistor the Ladder Network). Each digital bit corresponds to a resistor, and the combination of different resistors is selected by the switch to generate the analog signal. Early DACs mostly used the R2R architecture, but due to the increase in digital audio code rate, the number of resistors required for R2R and the difficulty of design have greatly increased, so most of the low-end DACs use the DS architecture with better indicators. In general, the DS architecture performs better on metrics such as parsing and dynamic range, while the R2R architecture is more analog and has a warmer and looser sound. K11 ordinary version and R2R version is that the decoding is different, and the output power is also a little different. The R2R version is slightly smaller.

decoding part adopts Feiao's brand-new self-developed fully differential 24Bit R2R resistor array DAC, which consists of 48 thin film resistors per channel, with a total of 192 precision of 0.1 and low temperature floating (30ppm). And the DAC module adopts the design of independent PCB module, increases the phosphor copper material, and the shielding cover covered by passivation process can effectively shield the external interference. In addition, the K11 R2R uses a complementary architecture, which has lower noise, less FFT harmonic components, and a darker music background than a non-complementary architecture.

audio signal is transmitted to the digital audio bridge through the USB interface processor, processed by FPGA, sent to R2R DAC for decoding and output by 4 channels, then low-pass filtered by TI OPA1642 professional operational amplifier, converted into single-ended analog signal, and then transmitted to the NJW1195A electronic volume control chip to realize volume adjustment. K11:is moderate, the diving and texture are good, the rebound is rapid, there is a slight sense of dispersion, it is a relatively strong low frequency with a certain sense of atmosphere; The human voice density is moderate, with slight graininess and line feeling, relatively soft and warm, and the male and female voice performance is good and relatively emotional. High frequency brightness and density are moderate, with light micro-tone dyeing, slight graininess, and good overall texture and extension, there is a slight residual sound, the sound is more delicate and melodious.

K11 R2R: The output power is slightly smaller than that of the normal version. It is also X-01 that headphones need to increase the volume by about 4 squares to reach the same volume. Compared with the ordinary version, it has less low frequency, more compact and solid, and less dispersion. The human voice is warmer, still slightly grainy and linear, but it is softer than the ordinary version, and the voice is more emotional in comparison. The high frequency is still moderately dense in brightness, but less grainy, smoother and softer, still with a little residual sound, the sound is light and soft on a delicate and melodious basis. Its sound is warmer and softer than the normal version, and the high and low frequencies are not so warped, making it more balanced overall. But the sound delicate degree is slightly worse than the ordinary version.
